How Grounded Counselling Co. collects, uses, stores and protects your personal information.
[[ Placeholder — must be reviewed before publishing. ]] This is a plain-language starting point, not legal advice. Have it checked against your professional association's code of ethics, your insurer's requirements and the Australian Privacy Principles before the site goes live.
What I collect
To provide counselling I collect your name, contact details, and information about your health, circumstances and reasons for seeking support. This is collected directly from you — through the contact form, intake paperwork and our sessions.
Why I collect it
Your information is used to provide counselling, keep accurate clinical records, arrange appointments and payment, and meet my professional and legal obligations. It is not used for marketing, and it is never sold or shared for commercial purposes.
How it is stored
Records are stored securely in password-protected practice management software with access limited to me. Records are retained for the period required by law and by my professional association, then securely destroyed.
When information may be disclosed
What you share is confidential. There are limited exceptions where I may be required to disclose information without your consent:
- Where there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to you or another person.
- Where there is a legal obligation to report, including mandatory reporting of child abuse.
- Where records are subpoenaed or otherwise compelled by a court.
- Where disclosure is required as part of my professional supervision, in de-identified form.
I will discuss these limits with you in our first session so you know where you stand before you share anything.

Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask to see or correct the personal information I hold about you at any time. Email tilly@groundedcounsellingco.com.au and I'll respond within a reasonable period. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
