FAQ
Questions, Answered
If there's something you're wondering that isn't covered here, please send me a message — no question is too small.
Do I need a referral to book a session?
No. You can book directly with me — there's no referral or mental health care plan required. If you already have a GP or another practitioner involved in your care, you're welcome to let me know, but it isn't necessary.
Are sessions online or in person?
All sessions are held online via a secure, easy-to-use video platform. You'll receive a private link before your appointment, and you can join from anywhere you feel comfortable and won't be interrupted.
How long is a session, and how many will I need?
Sessions run for 60 minutes. There's no set number — some women come for a handful of sessions to work through something specific, others prefer ongoing support. We'll talk about what feels right for you and revisit it as we go.
Who do you work with?
I work with women aged 18 and over, individually and as couples. If what you're bringing sits outside what I can safely support, I'll say so honestly and help you find the right person or service instead.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. What you share in session stays between us. There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions — such as a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or where records are subpoenaed by a court — and I'll walk you through these in our first session so you know exactly where you stand.
Can I claim on Medicare or private health?
Grounded Counselling Co. does not currently offer Medicare rebates. Private health rebates may be available depending on your provider and level of cover. Please check directly with your health fund before booking to confirm whether counselling services are included.
What if I've never done counselling before?
That's completely normal, and you don't need to prepare anything. The first session is mostly about getting to know each other, talking through what's brought you here and what you'd like to feel different. You set the pace — there's no pressure to share more than you're ready to.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens, and sometimes plans need to change. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 48 hours' notice. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed appointments, will incur the full session fee.
What if I'm in crisis?
This is not a crisis service and I'm not able to provide emergency or after-hours support. If you need help right now, please call 000, Lifeline on 13 11 14, or the WA Mental Health Emergency Response Line on 1300 555 788 (Perth metro) or 1800 676 822 (Peel).
